37 words that must be
mastered in kindergarten.
Pop - eye words are words that you eyeball and the word should pop right out
of your mouth. The blue Pop - eye words are high frequency
words that pop up often in everything we read. Many of these words are
difficult to sound out and therefore children need to memorize them. Sight word recognition is very important to beginning readers. Sight
words often link thoughts together and increase fluency thus increasing
comprehension. Ideas for practice at home include putting the words on
index cards and playing memory, flash card drill, or Bingo.
