In
Reading We will finish up work on Theme 7 "In
the Neighborhood" and begin Theme 8, "Jobs People Do"The books for Theme 7 are "Swing High, Swing Low"
by Fiona Coward, "The Most Perfect Spot" by Diane Goode, "The Town Mouse and
the Country Mouse" by Lorinda Bryan Cauley. Books for Theme 8
are "Everybody Works" by Shelley Rotner and Ken Kreisler, "My Teacher
Can Teach Anyone!" by W. Nikola-Lisa, Zara's Hats" by Paul Meisel and
"Bravo, Maurice!" by Rebecca Bond. Skills to be taught and
reviewed include word blending, differentiating between fantasy and reality,
describing words, word building, comprehension, middle sounds, rhyming,
using new vocabulary, reading a variety of sentences in short books and
identifying the beginning, middle and ending of stories. |

Our Math unit is
Money
and Time. The concepts in this unit
include: identifying coins and their value, comparing the value of
coins, measuring the time of day as morning, afternoon, evening, day or
night. We will learn about calendar measurement with emphasis on
weeks, months, days and understanding yesterday, today and tomorrow.
We will identify activities that take more time compared to less time.
We will tell time to the hour and compare analog and digital clocks. We will
also be working on measurement vocabulary such as length, width, weight,
volume, heavier, lighter etc. |

In
Science
we will be learning about plants and animals. We will also learn how
living things interact with the environment, recognize characteristics of
plants and animals, identify animal offspring, recognize that plants and
animals may live in different habitats and different environments. |
|
 
|
Our
Social Studies
unit will concentrate on Farms and animals. We will learn about
products that come from the farm and how they get to us. We will learn
about the basics concepts of markets and exchanges and recognize that we
depend on each other for exchange of goods and services. |
