In
Reading, we will begin by
reviewing the skills and letters in Theme 5 and then begin Theme 6,
"Let's Play". The books to read for this theme are "Chugga-Chugga Choo
- Choo" by Kevin Lewis, "I'm a Jolly Farmer" by Julie Lacome, "Snowmen at
Night" by Caralyn Buehner, and "David's Drawings" by Cathryn Falwell.
The new letters will be Ll and Hh. and the new words are
one, see, what and two. We will practice writing commands
and directions. After we read a story we will identify the setting.

In
Math, we will continue working on Chapter
5 which concentrates on Geometry and Fractions. New vocabulary
includes sphere, cylinder, cube, edge, corner, curve, roll, stack. slide,
symmetry, one half, one fourth, and whole. |

||
In
Science
we will be discussing weather conditions that occur during the Winter both
in Florida as well as around the world. We will be working on day and
night concepts and will compare similarities along with the differences.
We will learn fun things about winter as well as the dangerous things that
can happen. We will learn why it snows and how it affects people and
animals. We will learn what hibernation means and who does it .We will
be discussing facts about penguins and polar bears. We
will be doing several snowman activities. |

||
Review
for Social Studies will
center on the differences between basic needs and wants of families.
We will then identify types of food used by people in the community. We will
then review the basic need for clothing as well as the different types of
clothing that are necessary for people in different communities We
will review how weather dictates appropriate clothing. We will compare
and contrast different types of shelter in our communities as well as
communities around the world. After we review the fact that people
work at jobs and use money to purchase goods both basic and wanted, we
will close the unit with a story about hard work paying off,
"The Ant and the Grasshopper". |
