Welcome to Kindergarten

Dear Kindergarten parents:

Welcome to Pinewood Elementary School!  As the year progresses, you will notice that I use a variety of teaching materials and activities that will meet each child’s developmental needs.  Kindergarten is a wonderful time in a child’s life.  It is the beginning of the formal school years.  The family-like atmosphere in the classroom will help develop self-esteem and foster positive feelings towards learning.  To help prepare your child, I would like to share some basic information with you:

Morning arrival – all students are taken to the auditorium and are supervised until 7:45am.

Afternoon Dismissal – Students are placed by me into three different lines.  The Extended Day students are picked up by Extended Day personnel.  It is extremely important that you have notified Extended Day personnel that your child is expected there; do not just tell your child.  The students being picked up at car line are escorted to the front of the school where they will sit and wait for you.  Please do not get out of your car to get them.  Safety Patrol will get them to your car safely.  Students walking, riding bikes, or riding the bus home will be escorted by me to their proper areas.  I place bus students on the bus before other grades, so please tell older siblings to look for their brother or sister on the bus rather than in the classroom.

Any dismissal changes must be in writing.

Allergies – Teachers need to be informed if there are any health concerns or if your child is allergic to anything. (food, insects, etc.)

Emergency Information – The main office will need contact information for each student.  Work, home, and emergency telephone numbers must be updated throughout the school year.

For the safety of your child and all other students, we request that you do not go to the classrooms without checking in at the office first.  If your child is late in the morning, please go to the office.  This helps us to not only maintain a safe campus, but to also decrease interruptions to the instructional day.  Students who are picked up early are released only through the main office.

Please let the teacher know in advance if you plan on sending in any cookies or cupcakes for the occasion so we can plan accordingly.  Cookies always work best!  We will share these treats at lunch or outside in the gazebo.

S.T.A.R. Notebook – (Students Taking Academic Responsibility)

Please check this notebook nightly, as this provides communication between school and home.  Please make sure that your child returns this notebook daily.

Look for these folders to come home each Wednesday.  Remove all papers and review them.  Sign and return only papers that require you to do so.  Sign the outside of the Wednesday Folder on the line by the correct date and return the folder to school the next day.

If your child will be absent from school, you must send in a written note explaining the reason for the absence in order for the absence to be excused.

Please send in school supplies on the supply list provided by the office.  In addition, send in one change of clothing labeled in a Ziploc bag to be kept at school.

Please write your child’s name on all items brought to school including lunchboxes, backpacks, jackets, sweaters, etc.

Thank you in advance and please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  I look forward to getting to know you and your child and to a successful and fun filled school year.

Sincerely,

Mrs. L. Lerette
